HOME ALONE (the suburbs dream tonight) delves into the inner sanctum of the Australian lifestyle. Stacked between cans of tinned corn, trying to find the remote, backlit by the glow of an ad break on Today Tonight: this is where we live.
The debut work from new WA contemporary dance company, Company Upstairs, HOME ALONE is a continuation of Bianca Martin’s dance theatre explorations and shows her growing choreographic reputation.
Featuring a radical design by artist Jamie Macchiusi, HOME ALONE traverses the media of installation, dance, music and theatre and allows the audience to move about the space and view the work from a number of vantage points.
Take a peak through the windows into an abstracted image of everyday life and contemporary Australian domestic normalcy, weekend do-it-yourself projects and debt consolidation. It’s a tale of gratification via material goods, a housing squeeze and life in the lucky country.
Performed by Keira Mason-Hill, Kathryn Puie and Joe Jurd with live drums by Tim Bates and lighting design by Deidre Math.
Supported by Department of Culture and the Arts, LotteryWest, Acton and strutdance
