Whether you’re a fan of poetry, hip-hop or the soapbox, the second annual Australian Poetry Slam is the event you’ve been waiting for. Contestants are given a mic and two minutes to impress the judges, who are selected from the crowd.
Each heat features 20 competitors, with 2 from each round reaching the state final. Cash prizes are up for offer, and 2 of WA’s finest will be flown to the Sydney Opera House to battle for the national Australian Poetry Slam 08 title in December.
Stick around after the final on Nov 6 to catch Perth’s independant dirt-rockers Blac Blocs playing a set. For those who have not heard, think Midnight Oil meets Fugazi…
